Servings: 6
For The Sauce:
- 1.5 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 3 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1.5 tbsp Chinese cooking wine (sub with cooking sake, mirin or rice wine)
- 3.5 tbsp dark soy sauce can sub with regular soy sauce but the color and taste of the beef won’t be the same
- 3 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp white pepper
For The Stir Fry & Garnish:
- 1.5 tbsp oil (vegetable, canola)
- 3 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 750-800 grams lean beef mince
- 3/4 cup spring onions
- sesame seeds
Place the sauce ingredients in a bowl and give it a good mix until combined.
Heat a wide pan over medium high heat and add oil. When oil is hot, saute garlic and onions. Cook until the onions turn soft and translucent.
Turn the heat up and add the beef; break it up as it cooks. Let it turn brown all over and continue to cook until the liquid is gone.
Pour in the sauce and stir to coat the beef. Let it simmer for a few minutes or until the sauce has been absorbed by the beef. (Be patient here and wait until all the sauce clings to the beef to get the optimum flavour).
Add spring onions and stir it through. Turn off the heat and garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
